Ivory Lodge is located on a private concession, a few kilometres off the main Bulawayo to Victoria Falls road. Although not actually in the Hwange National Park, it is a 40 minute drive to the Main Gate entrance. Getting there, the lodge is located 173kms from Victoria Falls (approximately 2 hour drive) or 263kms from Bulawayo (approximately 3 hour drive). There are scheduled flights arriving daily into both Victoria Falls and Bulawayo and transfers can be arranged. Charter flights are also available to Hwange Airfield. If self-driving, a 4×4 is recommended for the last few kilometres on dirt road.

The main entertainment area of Ivory Lodge is a beautiful thatched dining, bar and lounge area. Directly in front of this building is a lovely wooden deck that overlooks a fire-pit, which in turn overlooks a waterhole, where wildlife come and go freely. Just off to the side of the building is the pool, near the deck. The lodge is fenced for the guests’ protection. The area is lit at night by unobtrusive, soft floodlights.

There are 9 rooms for guests, accommodating a maximum of 18 guests: Seven elevated and well-appointed thatched tree house style rooms; Two grand tented presidential suites.

Each bedroom has a front patio overlooking the waterhole in front of camp, with a couple of chairs for added game viewing comfort. The standard en-suites have showers, while one of the presidential suites has both a shower and a bathtub. All rooms have a ceiling fan for the summer months, and electric blankets for the winter

Ivory Lodge is linked to the national grid, and therefore appliances like hair-dryers and electric shavers may be used, so long as there isn’t a power cut. If the power does go out, there is a back-up generator able to supply the whole camp. For guests travelling with valuables, individual canvas bags with padlocks (keys remain with guests) are supplied which are then stored in a central safe. The lodge is very proud of their “Mother Africa” anti-poaching unit, which patrols the 6000 acre Ivory concession. They also build predator proof bomas / kraals for the villagers to keep cattle safe from predators at night. The Trust aids infrastructure development at the nearby Mabale Primary School as well as supporting the senior citizens living at Dete Old Age Home. The Mother Africa Trust sources resources for nearby schools and cultivates a friendly learning environment for students.. All of the tree-houses also have mosquito nets and 24 hour electricity, with plenty of hot water.

Meals are served around a large table, enabling guests to mingle and meet people from other countries. If preferred, guests can dine separately at their own private table. The meals themselves are varied, with something for everyone. Breakfasts are served buffet style, with lunch being 2-courses, while dinner is 3-courses.
